Cultural sensitivity awareness and appreciation of the values and beliefs of a cultural, ethnic, racial, or other group that is not one’s own, accompanied by the willingness to adapt one’s behaviour accordingly. (American Psychological Association). It’s time to think about this in relation to our treatments, patients, and health care workers. Do we need to adjust our protocols, do they fit each skin tone? How do we raise more cultural sensitivity and create a safe environment for our patients and health care workers?

This is a 1 hour session on how some inequalities within the radiotherapy world can be reduced and explores strategies on how this gap can be closed. Throughout the session, the speakers will draw on their own personal/department’s experiences on how they have implemented changes such as inclusive pregnancy status checking and how IRMER/Society of Radiographer guidance has changed, how to ensure inclusivity in trials and using data to address inequalities in cancer care. All of which is a valuable takeaway for all who attends this session to further enhance and improve their departments equality and diversity in radiotherapy.

In this session, we will comprehensively discuss the subject of hypofractionation in cancer treatment. Prof. Martin Pruschy will delve into recent biological insights, emphasizing hypoxia, immune responses, and the potential for combined treatments. Prof. Paul Keall will discuss the technological impacts on treatment accuracy and upcoming trends in adaptive radiation therapy. Dr. Yolanda Prezado will introduce novel technologies and techniques for hypofractionation delivery, and their suitability for particular tumours. Finally, dr. Evert Van Limbergen will present clinical evidence and ongoing trials in hypofractionation for major cancer types, highlighting the significance of landmark trials, and clinically challenging aspects of radiosensitivity.

This clinical symposium will feature lectures on tailoring radiation therapy for breast cancer according to risk of recurrence: in which cases the addition of regional node irradiation to axillary surgery has added value for breast cancer outcomes, in which cases radiation can replace axillary surgery and in which cases radiation therapy to the breast and regional lymphatics can be omitted safety. All speakers are leading from important trials and collaborative groups, like PRIME II, EBCTCG and SENOMAC. We look forward to a vivid discussion on indications, volumes, dose and fractionation, to provide an in-depth understanding of the future of breast radiation therapy.
