The key responsibility of ESTRO Focus Groups is to support ESTRO Councils and Committees in their daily operations. This includes assisting in the development of clinical and technical guidelines, offering guidance on scientific programmes and educational curricula, and providing expertise during ESTRO events. Additionally, Focus Groups often serve as intermediaries between ESTRO and other societies. In this context, the ESTRO Gynaecology Focus Group is committed to supporting ESTRO in gynaecology-specific matters.

The ESTRO Gynaecology Focus Group aims to comprehensively cover topics relevant to research, clinical applications, and societal initiatives in gynaecological radiotherapy. A key objective of the Gynaecology Focus Group is to foster research networks by initiating structured research activities, organising networking meetings, and contributing to scientific forums. Moreover, it aims to initiate and support educational initiatives, enhance the quality of care, and assist in guideline development.

While prioritising a European focus, the Focus Group also seeks to facilitate collaborations with non-European and global partners. This includes promoting international guidelines and engaging in global educational activities, especially by providing education and training for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The core values embraced by the ESTRO Gynaecology Focus Group include credibility, impact, transparency, mutual respect, and receptiveness to innovative ideas.

  • Treatment Modalities: Radiotherapy (EBRT, brachytherapy, protons), combined therapy (chemotherapy, targeted/immunotherapy, hyperthermia), and reirradiation.
  • Sites: Cervix, endometrium, vulva, vagina, ovarian cancer, and pediatric cases.
  • Research: Clinical studies (disease outcomes / recurrence risks, morbidity, and rehabilitation), translational research (tissue and imaging-based biomarkers), and technological developments and practical implementation (contouring, treatment planning, AI integration, imaging techniques, quality indicators, etc.).
  • Educational and Quality of Care Efforts:  European and international courses, guideline development activities, and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care.

The Focus Group composition should facilitate collaboration within and outside Europe, and should also secure synergy, collaboration and alignment within ESTRO:

  • Within ESTRO: GEC-ESTRO Committee and other ESTRO committees, ESTRO gyn teaching course
  • Other societies: ESGO, IGCS, ABS, ASTRO, AAPM, IAEA etc.

Survey from ESTRO Gynaecology Focus Group: you can help to prioritise areas of interest in gynaecological radiotherapy

Participation Deadline: 8 December 2024

The ESTRO Gynaecology Focus Group aims to improve radiotherapy and outcomes for gynaecological cancer patients across the whole ESTRO community. To achieve this to the best of our ability we need to understand what the current landscape is and what the perceived gaps and requirements are, and how we should prioritise these. We therefore appreciate it if you could spare 5 minutes of your time to answer the survey below which includes 10 required questions. This will ultimately enable us to work together effectively to deliver relevant resources, training and support to improve radiotherapy for gynaecological cancers for all of our patients to the best of our ability.
