Both the radiation modality and the way of dose delivery play a role in tissue response. The preclinical data demonstrated that FLASH delivery of the different types of radiation at ultra-high dose rates (>30-40 Gy/s) and conventional radiotherapy have similar anti-tumor responses; however, FLASH radiotherapy has less normal tissue toxicity. On the other hand, preclinical and clinical evidence suggests that particle therapy has more precise dose delivery and, therefore, may achieve a higher therapeutic efficacy than photon-based treatment. This debate session will argue whether FLASH radiotherapy is a more promising avenue for the future of radiation oncology than particle radiotherapy and discuss its immunomodulatory effects and limitations on the way to clinical translation.

The session will provide a concise overview on a role of radiotherapy in various haematological malignancies. It will start with the discussion on the role of Total Skin Electron Irradiation in patients suffering from non-T-cell lymphomas with extensive skin lesions (Prof. Blamek). This will be followed by the lectures describing a paradigm shift for target definition and dose prescription in radiotherapy of lymphomas with a particular focus on primary mediastinal B-cell lymphomas (Prof. Specht and Prof. Held). The session will end with a thought-provoking lecture featuring the interplay between radiation and CAR T-cell therapy in lymphoma management (Dr Niezink). After the lectures, time for audience discussion will be also provided.

In this session prestigious speakers will discuss and define current evidence for the optimal local radio-oncological treatment strategy with or without surgery for soft tissue sarcoma - the current evidence for EBRT, brachytherapy and IORT alone or for IORT /brachytherapy as a boost in adult soft-tissue sarcomas of the extremity, trunk and retroperitoneal space. For all treatment approaches the technical and practical state of the art considerations and recommendations will be also presented.
