Overview: Automatic contouring of OAR and target volumes has the potential to save clinician time and minimize contour variability. However, quality assurance and clinical acceptance of auto-generated contours remain challenging. This symposium offers an overview of: 1) the current literature on AI-based contouring and its use in ESTRO member clinics, based on a 2020 survey; 2) metrics for contour evaluation, together with subjective and dose-based assessment; 3) ESTRO recommendations for and experiences with clinical implementation of an automatic contouring tool; 4) quality assurance for automatic contouring and the factors that affect the required segmentation accuracy.
