It is our great pleasure to invite you to Maastricht, The Netherlands, for an afternoon symposium on 19 February 2025, which is organised to honour the PhD thesis defence of Orit Kaidar-Person at the University of Maastricht on 20 February 2025.

Breast cancer care mandates an in-depth understanding of surgical and radiation modalities and their implications for oncological and quality-of-life outcomes. The symposium will cover innovative perspectives that can be used to assist decisions regarding the choice of locoregional therapies, such as proton beam radiation, preoperative radiation, boost delivery, prediction of nodal burden, and omission of endocrine therapy. Consideration of the latter will include an interim analysis of the EUROPA trial. In addition, innovative ways to improve the quality of breast cancer patients’ lives after locoregional therapy will be presented. Examples are the recovery of sensation after reconstructive surgery and the EU-funded Cinderella project, which is intended to develop an artificial-intelligence-based app to help patients predict aesthetic outcomes after breast surgery. All speakers are internationally recognised breast cancer experts, who will share their innovative views on how locoregional breast cancer care can be improved.

This symposium will be held at a beautiful venue near Maastricht, a city where history meets innovation. It hosts a blend of cutting-edge research facilities and charming historical ambience, and so provides an inspiring backdrop for intellectual exchange.

In addition, you are invited to attend the public defence of the thesis by Orit Kaidar-Person entitled: A BRILLIANT-SECRET: Identifying the high-risk volumes for local recurrence after mastectomy and breast reconstruction to guide postmastectomy radiation therapy. This public defence will be held on Thursday 20 February at 10.00 at Maastricht University, Minderbroedersberg 4-6, Maastricht, The Netherlands.

If you want to join us, please ask for a registration link via secretariaatrvb@maastro.nl.

We look forward to welcoming you to Maastricht!

With warm regards,

Orit Kaidar-Person, Liesbeth Boersma, Philip Poortmans, Birgitte Offersen & Dirk De Ruysscher
