Mortality due to breast cancer is declining in most countries thanks to effective screening programmes, early diagnosis, molecular characterisation of the different subtypes and biology-driven treatments. A multidisciplinary management of breast-cancer patients is therefore the key to success. A breast-cancer multidisciplinary team should include - besides the “classic” clinical specialties - pathologists, molecular biologists and geneticists. Furthermore, the availability of multiple diagnostic and therapeutic choices, the increasing costs of new technologies and drugs and the issue of sustainability represent a new challenge for socially responsible clinicians. With this goal in mind, this programme includes lectures on molecular characterisation, updated information regarding treatments of early and advanced disease, details of management of difficult cases and hereditary syndromes and considerations of the issues of sustainability and drug access across countries.

The need to modify the format and timing of this programme due to the Covid-19 pandemic has turned the advanced international breast cancer course (AIBCC) 2020 into a larger project than originally planned, which enables improved results and involvement. The course is directed by Professor Pier Franco Conte (Padua, Italy), Professor Valentina Guarneri (Padua), Professor Gabriel N. Hortobagyi (Houston, USA) and Professor Philip Poortmans (Nijmegen, The Netherlands). Two sessions are planned: asynchronous distance learning with main lectures that will be on-line from 25 September, 2020, and two live webinars (8 and 9 October) that will be organised with Q&A and presentations of clinical cases.

Clinical case discussions and debates are planned to enable a continuous and fruitful exchange of experiences and opinions between speakers and participants.

To reward scientific excellence and to foster international cooperation, the International Scientific Committee of the 16th AIBCC will award the 10th International Prize for Breast Cancer Research to a scientist who has published a breakthrough paper in the previous year. We also welcome the presentation of posters from participants and the best poster will be awarded a prize during the award ceremony.

The event is addressed to: gynaecologists and obstetricians, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, biologists, pharmacists and nurses.

Based on Italian regulations, the Accademia Nazionale di Medicina (the National Academy of Medicine, provider n. 31) will assign nine continuing medical education (CME) points to the activity named CME: Async Distance Learning and to the live webinar, six CME points.

Deadline for registration: 26 September, 2020
