Turning cold into hot tumours: Challenges in radio-immunotherapy
Kerstin Borgmann,
Germany;
Sara Pilskog,
Norway
In this session, very prominent immuno-oncology researchers will provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities in this field. We will learn what the phase I/II trials that have been done actually tell us about the clinical prospects of combining checkpoint inhibitors with radiation therapy. We will also hear about possible reasons for failure, the immuno-editing mechanisms of radiotherapy at the cellular level and how these affect the onset of the abscopal effect, i.e. when a response is achieved at a non-irradiated site/metastasis. Further immuno-editing of standard therapy combinations and the potential for imaging these processes will also be addressed.
