Biography

Dr. Cristian Fernandez-Palomo is a radiobiologist conducting research in the field of Spatially Fractionated Radiation Therapy. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Valparaiso in Chile, and his Master's and Doctorate degrees from McMaster University in Canada. Currently, he serves as a Young Group Leader and Senior Research Scientist at the University of Bern in Switzerland, where he leads preclinical research on Microbeam Radiation Therapy. Cristian's primary research focus is on spatially fractionated modalities, such as Microbeam Radiation Therapy. His goal is to understand the relationship between spatial fractionation of the dose and radiobiological effects, and to enhance their prescription to expedite their translation into the clinical setting. To conduct his research, he works closely with the European and Australian Synchrotrons, utilizing their high dose rates to enable spatial fractionation and FLASH radiotherapy simultaneously. He also collaborates with renowned hospitals and research centers worldwide.
