Biography

Oscar Acosta, PhD is since 2009 an associate professor at the Signal and Image Processing Laboratory (LTSI-INSERM 1099), University of Rennes 1, France. His current research activities are in image processing and computational methods for devising personalized radiotherapy in Prostate Cancer. He initially obtained an Electrical Engineering degree in 1995 and subsequently a Master of Sciences degree in 1997 in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. In 2004, he obtained a PhD degree in France, under a cooperation program with Latin American Institutes (ALFA BETA Biomedical Engineering Training Action), at the University of Rennes I. Between 2005 and 2009 he worked as a research scientist for CSIRO in Australia. Based first at the Medical Physics department at Westmead Hospital in Sydney and then at the Australian e-Health Research Centre in Brisbane the focus of his research was in medical image processing in the study of biomarkers for Alzheimer’s Disease as being part of the biomedical imaging team. Between 2012 and 2016 he was member of the INSERM Scientific Specialized Commission (CSS8) Technologies for Health, Therapeutics, Biotechnology. He is currently taking part in the organization of the bi-annual IEEE EMBS International Summer School on Biomedical Imaging in St Jacut de la Mer, Emerald Coast in France. The current research work has been developed in a tight collaboration with the clinicians of the Anti-Cancer Center, Eugène Marquis. He has a large experience in predictive models for radiotherapy, introducing innovative methodologies for 3D data mining.
