Having initially read physics at Manchester, Dr Balfour gained his first glimpse into the world of medical imaging through a summer project on PET at the WMIC. Inspired by the broad, interdisciplinary nature of the subject, he pursued a masters project into PET quantification, followed by a PhD thesis in PET reconstruction at KCL in 2016. There he continued as a post-doc until he joining Mirada Medical as a research scientist in 2018. Since then, his interests have focused on use of physical modelling and machine learning in RT topics, but has also retained a secret soft spot for PET and its applications.
