ARTTI-ESTRO Courses for RTT's (1 day or 3 days)

The target audience for this course are RTTs who are interested in expanding their knowledge and interested in developing short education courses.

- Online lecture component: A series of lectures will be made available online prior to the live session and must be followed by participants of both course options.

- 1 Day Course (13th December 2019): Lectures and discussion groups expanding on the content of the online lectures. Unlimited spots available. 

- 3 Day Train the Trainers Course (13-15th December 2019): Incorporating the online component and the 1-day course. This is followed by two further days where small groups will work with the faciliators to define and develop short education courses that they can deliver to their colleagues to help to disseminate information. Limited spots available.

1 day Teaching programme aim

• To consolidate the information given on the online component and to put into clinical context.

 

3 day Course aims

•  Day 1: To consolidate the information given on the online component and to put into clinical context.

•  Days 2 and 3: To equip RTTs with the skills necessary to design, organise, deliver and evaluate educational initiatives in their own language to RTTs in their own country.

 

 

The online component

All participants are required to create an ESTRO account and complete the online component. The lecture content is:

a)    Basic principles of positioning and immobilisation. (Mary Coffey)

b)    Impact of positioning and immobilisation on treatment planning (Michelle Leech)

c)     Impact of positioning errors on margins. (Todd Pawlicki and Irena Dragojevic)

d)    Impact of positioning and immobilisation on treatment verification – the RTT perspective (Sharon Wong)

e)    Impact of positioning and immobilisation on clinical outcome (Laura Mullaney)

The participants can access the lectures in their own time but must complete this section prior to attendance at the teaching day.

 

The 1 day teaching programme

a)    Clinical application of basic radiobiology principles for RTTs

b)    ICRU reports 50, 62 and 83

c)     Preparing the patient for treatment

d)    Introduction to basic treatment planning principles

e)    Interpreting a treatment prescription and plan

f)      Monitoring reactions

g)    Reviewing IGRT protocols

h)    Incident reporting and learning

i)      Documentation

 

The 3 day Train the Trainers programme

Day 1 as above

Days 2 and 3

Material on teaching and learning will be made available to participants of this component.  Participants will be guided through the process of preparing a short course to deliver to their colleagues.  There will be limited lecture content as the focus is on participants defining the topic, content and facilitators of short courses relevant for their situation.  Topics covered by the faculty will be:

a)    Improving the professional profile and education level of RTTs

b)    Preparing and delivering a short course

c)     Preparing a practical workshop

d)    Preparing a journal club

e)    Tips on powerpoint presentations
