SEETRO 2019 in Ljubljana, Slovenia - PDF Version

After being hosted by Belgrade in 2013, Zagreb in 2015 and Sofia in 2017, 4th South East Europe Technology in Radiation Oncology (SEETRO) Congress will be hosted by Europe’s Green Capital of 2016, Ljubljana, between 4 to 6 October 2019.

SEETRO is the Regional Congress for RTTs (Radiation Technologists / Radiation Therapists) in the South and East European region, in cooperation with the wider European RTT community.

The initiative for this Congress as a regional cooperation between countries elicited positive feedback from the ESTRO / IAEA Train the Trainers project called Best Practice in Radiation Oncology – A Course to Train RTT Trainers. It is noteworthy that Southern and Eastern European countries participating in this initiative developed a series of locally organized courses, which has grown through these countries’ collaboration over time, eventually resulting in a collaborative regional concept of  professional engagements.

By 2017, SEETRO Congress grew large enough to accommodate participants from 13 countries, and the 2019 edition will be no less international and scientifically relevant. Over 100 participants will hear more than 25 lectures, with reputed speakers from over 10 countries. Meanwhile the last day of this Congress will be dedicated to workshops in the radiotherapy department of Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana.

We are glad to announce that our program will include lectures from two distinguished guests. Mary Coffey and Michelle Leech are professors at Trinity College in Dublin where the latter leads the Discipline of Radiation Therapy program. Both these guests are very prominent members of RTT ESTRO. The SEETRO 2019 is also endorsed by ESTRO.

The Congress will commence on Friday 4 October with a short opening ceremony and keynote speech. This will be followed by scientific program on Friday and Saturday, with workshops scheduled for Sunday morning.

The themes of lectures include: Quality assurance & safety, Patient care, Radio Therapists (RT) of children, claustrophobic patients, information to patients, psychology), Education & teaching, Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT) and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SRBT) – [protocols, immobilization, verification], Imaging in planning process, Imaging in treatment process, and Modern techniques in radiation therapy.

Given that the congress will take place in City hotel in the centre of Ljubljana, participants will be able to experience the city’s vibrant evening life barely a few steps from the hotel doors, including sumptuous food and some truly engaging street concerts. As the city centre is rich with a plethora of places to go and enjoy a drink in the evening, the experts will have plenty of opportunities to exchange opinions, perspectives, and experiences in a less formal atmosphere.
